
Plant Manager
The Plant Manager will provide leadership support in all aspects of production in a pulse/processing and/or loading facility. As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Plant Manager will be an active leader, responsible for demonstrating a commitment to safety, continuous improvement, employee engagement and maintaining a cost-effective operations and equipment’s. The Plant Manager is a key role to build the foundational skills required to be successful. The successful applicant will report to the General Manager.
Position & Responsibilities:

Day-to-day oversight of plant safety

Ensure compliance with the Process Safety Management program, CGC, HACCP program, Organic program, Seed Institute and CFIA
-
Plant costs and budgets
-
Monitoring and ongoing improvement of plant productivity, risk management, supervision of employees, interaction with various corporate entities

Provide an injury-free work environment for employees, contractors and visitors

Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes

Plan, organize and direct the maintenance operations which ensure the most effective return on assets

Manage the day-to-day processing activities, maximizing positions, volumes expenses, and net profit

Develop and manages purchasing, logistic and sales relationships for all commodities and products in an assigned segment, line of business, and/or region

Manage vendors and staff associated with processing business

Communicate with merchandising and sales teams regarding market conditions and trading opportunities in assigned areas

Initiate plans and processes which minimize processing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.

Operate the site at the highest levels of efficiency by managing equipment reliability and overall equipment effectiveness and managing site spending and expenses to minimum levels required to meet site strategy

Establish and maintain a positive relationship with local farmers

Engage and motivate the workforce through an active presence on the processing floor
Requirements:
-
Knowledge of Seed Industry of Canada, CFIA, and CGC regulations

Knowledge of processing equipment
-
A minimum 5 years’ experience with 3 years of management and supervisory experience in plant operations including 3 years in the pulse processing industry or closely related field required

Demonstrate leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential

Strong organizational skills required to constantly keep in touch with various departments of the organization

Excellent communication skills interacting with all levels of staff

Proficiency in MS Office required and the ability to demonstrate a strong financial/business acumen is expected to be successful in this role as a significant part of the position entails meeting the budget and productivity requirements of the plant

Ability to work self-directed (day to day) with a high level of initiative, priority setting
-
Facility is a 12/6 operation; selected candidate must be able to work on average 50 hours per week and be available during business critical situations

Logistics & Administrative Coordinator
Columbia Seed Co. Ltd. is looking to fill a Part-Time position for Logistics & Administrative Coordinator to work in a team environment. Hours will start between 20-30/week but have potential to increase. To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate safe work practices and possess excellent communication skills.
Duties

Coordinate between multiple departments and individuals

Coordinate weekly in person and live meetings between ALL departments
-
Assist Office Manager and General Manager to establish and coordinate work schedules with Logistics and other departments as required.

Establish notes and keep records of meeting minutes
-
Ensure smooth operations between CGC, CFIA, Seed Canada and COR
-
Monitor Logistics Calendar and product movements between inter-provincial vendors and facilities.

Lead and work with other team members to perform Inventory Data Entry duties and ensure accurate digital record keeping.

Lead and work with Office Manager to ensure invoices are properly issued and filed
-
Support the Office Manager and General Manager with HACCP safety procedures and company policies
-
Resolve work-related problems and prepare and submit progress and other reports
-
Planning and executing the logistics for sales from Canada to domestic and export destinations
-
Negotiate various transportation costs and plan appropriate transportation modes to be utilized
-
Provide shipping and/or documentary instructions to supplier and ensure inventory is in a shippable position

Provide shipping advice (appropriation) to farmers
-
Ensure documents issued are in accordance with payment mechanism and contract
-
Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and costumers
-
Responsible for daily work orders and processing operations for special crops

Reviewing logistic plan to identify specific requirements
-
Providing accurate documentation required for all shipments
-
Issuing shipping instructions to processors with sufficient pre-advice to ensure timely shipment, application of appropriate quality of product, correct packaging and tagging

Negotiating freight rates and processing agreements

Manage an inventory control system and do accurate associated reporting
-
Setting up and maintaining good relations and negotiations with farmers, brokers, toll processors, freight companies, freight forwarders, trans-loaders and ocean freight companies.
